Wi-Fi developer's kit and embeddable module released to facilitate design process for integrating WLAN capability into devices without an OS

Symbol Technologies announced today that it is releasing a Wi-Fi (802.11b) OEM developer kit with an embeddable WLAN module that enables developers to design wireless networking into devices without operating systems.

The Wireless Networker OEM Module (CC-4137-1000-WW) is targeted towards devices used in the retail, manufacturing, and transportation and logistics sectors. Symbol stated that it extends its Spectrum24 High Rate Wireless LAN into "mobile, portable, and fixed devices, including wearable printers, price checkers, telemetry equipment, and more."

The solution features three software configurable hardware-interface options: Serial, basic parallel, and PCMCIA. Symbol stated that it is also equipped with industry-standard MMCX connectors to support antenna options.

The module incorporates a complete network protocol stack including TCP/IP, UDP, and LDP. Automatic protocol formatting and power management features are also present.
