Nokia Home Gateway

Helsinki Finland-based Nokia stepped up their efforts to enter the home networking market with the announcement today of an agreement with KPN to provide them with Nokia Home Gateway products. These products are based on the IEEE 802.11b standard and enable data transfer at 11 Mbps.

Nokia's home WLAN products are the MW1112 and MW1122 Home Gateways. KPN's MxStream Wireless ADSL/Fast Internet Service uses the Nokia Gateways. Nokia also provides the WLAN cards for the connection sharing solution. The DSL hardware is called the Nokia WLAN ADSL Home Gateway.

The MW1112 is designed for ISDN connection sharing and the MW1122 for ADSL Full-Rate or ADSL Lite. Detail specifications about the two gateways can be found at the Nokia Web site.

KPN, or Royal KPN N.V., is the largest telecommunications company in the Netherlands with over 45,000 employees and 25 million customers. KPN launched an ADSL broadband service called MxStream in 2000. In April 2001 the number of ADSL lines sold by KPN is approximately 60,000.
