 What Will the Future of Wireless Bring? By Naomi Graychase

On Monday, September 22nd, mobility experts and enthusiasts will gather in Philadelphia to take part in a panel discussion hosted by Mobile Monday Mid-Atlantic on the future of the next generation of wireless networks. Wi-Fi Planet readers and forum members are invited to submit questions through our forums, some of which will be asked live at the event. Answers will then be posted in our forums. The deadline for submissions is Monday, September 22nd, 2:00 p.m. EDT. The panel discussion, which will be held at The Franklin Institute’s Planetarium, will discuss several technology options, including Wi-Fi, LTE, and WiMAX. The moderator for the event is Kevin Werbach, Assistant Professor of Legal Studies & Business Ethics at The Wharton School. Panelists include: Dave Moshenberg, Enterprise Architect, AT&T Mobility; Chris Dixon, Senior Director, Product Development and Technology, Comcast; Richard Rasansky, Co-founder Network Acquisition Co. (NAC), the company behind the acquisition of the former EarthLink wireless network in Philadelphia; and Rick Robinson, VP, Product and Services, XOHM. Panelists will share their thoughts and take questions on the future of next generation wireless networks and their applications in everyday life. This event is sponsored by Select Greater Philadelphia, an economic development marketing organization dedicated to building the economy of the Greater Philadelphia region (northern Delaware, southern New Jersey, and southeastern Pennsylvania). It is a private, non-profit organization that focuses its resources on enhancing the profile and image of the region’s business community in order to attract businesses. “We’re excited about this event because it highlights the future of mobile technology in the region,” said Tom Morr, President & CEO of Select Greater Philadelphia. “We look forward to sharing ideas and insights from leading technology and business experts across the country.” Mobile Monday Mid-Atlantic is the Philadelphia chapter of a global networking organization for the wireless industry. According to a spokesperson for the group, "Panelists at the event will ask the audience of Philadelphian business people, entrepreneurs, and students to imagine the possibilities of a world where high-speed mobile Internet access is truly ubiquitous." “While network services were traditionally the domain of cellular operators, now WiMAX and Wi-Fi are enabling new types of operators, applications and business models to emerge,” said JP Finnell, co-chair and a founder of Mobile Monday Mid-Atlantic in a press release Tuesday. “Philadelphia is the home of Comcast, the country’s largest provider of cable services, and NAC, the new owner and operator of one of the country’s largest municipal wireless networks, not to mention being a major market for carriers like AT&T and XOHM. This city is going to be at the heart of next generation network development--and our businesses and citizens will be among the first to experience them. Mobile Monday Mid-Atlantic is delighted to be bringing together some of the leading minds driving next generation networks to give our local community a taste of things to come.”
