Product Watch: Proxim Expands 4.9GHz Portfolio
March 21, 2007
New products in the Tsunami line target homeland security.
Proxim Wireless, a subsidiary of Terabeam , has a line of products called Public Safety and Homeland Security. New additions to that family this week include the Tsunami MP.11 4954-R (a $3,000 point-to-multipoint basestation; $1,400 for a subscriber unit) and the Tsunami QuickBridge.11 4954-R (a $4,500 point-to-point bridge). Both use the 4.9GHz spectrum reserved for first responders by the FCC. Proxim already has a mesh access point using 4.9, which will now talk to these new long-distance backhaul products.
The new MP.11 and QuickBridge come in ruggedized outdoor cases for use in extreme conditions, have QoS packet prioritization for video and voice, and have AES encryption of over-the-air transmissions. Data rates go as high as 54Mbps on a connection. They're all available now.
