Planet3 Wireless says it will integrate use of the Fortress Technologies' Wireless Security Gateway into the hands-on portion of the Certified Wireless Security Professional program, along with experience with many other security solutions.

Planet3 Wireless of Atlanta, the developer of the vendor-neutral wireless training program called Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP), is adding another vendor to its security training course.

As part of the Certified Wireless Security Professional (CWSP) training offered under the CWNP program (the company also currently offers a Certified Wireless Network Administrator program, or CWNA), Planet3 is building in hands-on lab testing with products from Fortress Technologies of Tampa, Florida.

Specifically, CWSP students will have to install the Fortress Wireless Security Gateway and the AF Secure Client on a computer node, and use them as part of the tests with various networking paraphernalia such as auditing tools and protocol analyzers.

The Fortress products join products and services from several other companies featured in the 45 hour course, including solutions from WildPackets, Colubris, AirMagnet, Symbol, Microsoft, and Funk Software. A full course outline can be found online.

CWSP is Planet3's second level of certification and has been offered since April. Students are required to have the CWNA certification first -- the CWNA course is already in its second iteration, to reflect recent changes in the WLAN market.

CWSP covers various security issues such as authentication and intrusion. Future certifications planned for 2004 include the Certified Wireless Network Integrator (CWNI) for system integrators looking to design WLANs and Certified Wireless Networking Expert (CWNE), the highest level they will offer, showing off a fully-rounded knowledge of WLAN systems.

The CWNP courses and certification tests are offered at Prometric Authorized Testing Centers. A CWNA Study Guide targeting high school students is also available.
